Día del Niño Celebration at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science
In collaboration with the Mexican Cultural Center, the Denver Museum of Nature and Science presents the return of its annual Día del Niño celebration! Día del Niño, or Children’s Day, is celebrated in Mexico on April 30. While not an official holiday, it is usually a fun holiday for parents and teachers to honor the children in their lives.
On May 1, DMNS will host a Community Free Day with music and dance performances, crafts, and face painting by la Payasita Pelatita. Performers include Los Chinelos, the Colorado Asian Cultural Center, and Cleo Parker Robinson Dance. Free days at the museum are always a fun activity, and this one promises to be extra special.
In addition, you can check out a virtual event leading up to Día del Niño on April 18 with 10-year-old anthropologist Anirudh Rao. Rao is a student at STEM School Highlands Ranch and has already spoken in classrooms all across the state, encouraging others to be curious and learn about the world they live in. He will discuss what he has learned using artifacts from Ancient Egypt and other cultures.
Everyone involved is excited for the return of in-person activities at the museum. “After all the challenges we have overcome in the last couple of years as humanity, we are very excited to once again co-host the Children’s Day Celebration at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science back in-person,” says Ericka Hernandez, interim executive director of the Mexican Cultural Center. “This celebration, part of the SCFD Community Free Days, is one of the many ways we want to continue to help the youth in our community to thrive.”
So May, head on over to DMNS with the little ones for a day full of fun, culture, and learning!
