Tumblr is Now Allowing Tasteful Nudity

Although the porn ban is still active, Tumblr is allowing nudity again. Everyone’s favorite hellsite banned porn and kink posts in 2018 due to several reasons, the main one being that credit card companies and app stores will not allow that type of content on their platforms. This ban included imagery of “female-presenting nipples” and a lot of art. However, in 2022, an announcement has appeared stating that nudity in the artistic sense is now allowed back on the site and app.

Tumblr was once a haven of kink-friendly, LGBTQ content. In 2018, their parent company, Verizon, removed all that content, content that people worked hard to create. According to The Advocate, “Tumblr, which allows users to post multimedia content to its blogs, previously had been an online resource for many in the porn, LGBTQ, kink, and queer artist communities since its founding in 2007. In 2018, when Verizon owned Tumblr, it banned much adult content. Now Automattic is opening that up a bit, but allowing certain sexually explicit material runs isn’t feasible,” due to no true age verification being in place.

But wait, there’s more! Tumblr recently added a feature that hides adult content from those who don’t wish to see it. True, the setting is only available for iOS users right now, but it also is a setting that minors are unable to turn off.

Regardless, this new set of guidelines is a way for Tumblr users to be freer. Tumblr is returning to its days of playful hellishness, as non-sexual nudity is once more allowed.

As Matt Mullenweg, the CEO of Automattic, Tumblr’s parent company, said, “I am personally extremely libertarian in terms of what consenting adults should be able to share, and I agree with ‘go nuts, show nuts’ in principle, but the casually porn-friendly era of the early internet is currently impossible.”
