Trixie Mattel, the celebrated drag queen who first captivated audiences on RuPaul’s Drag Race, announces she is taking a sabbatical due to an “unsustainable” work situation. The 34-year-old performer, known for her distinctive style and vibrant personality, has openly shared that the intense demands of her career have led to significant health problems and have taken a toll on her personal life.
In a recent video posted on her YouTube channel, Mattel discusses the negative effects of her relentless work schedule. She reveals that she has been struggling with arthritis and temporomandibular joint disorder, conditions exacerbated by her demanding professional life. Mattel compares her work-life balance to having a well-developed upper body with frail legs, illustrating how her career achievements have come at the expense of her personal well-being.
Mattel’s impressive career includes founding Trixie Cosmetics, a blooming music career, hosting The Pit Stop, making notable appearances on Queen of the Universe, Trixie Motel, and countless other gigs. Despite these successes, the overwhelming workload has taken a significant toll.
Mattel reflects candidly on her situation, saying, “It is not so fierce to work yourself to death. It is not so fierce to work yourself into an autoimmune disorder. It is not so fierce to like … do so much drag as Trixie, that at a certain point, I literally started to feel like a Trixie impersonator.” This statement captures the essence of her struggle—While dedication and hard work are valuable, they become detrimental when they undermine one’s health and personal life.
Mattel’s decision to take a sabbatical aims at addressing these issues and restoring balance in her life. She has estimated that her break will last approximately three months. During this period, Mattel has been met with an outpouring of support from her fans, who have expressed their well-wishes and eagerness for her return.
