The Reunion Project to Host Denver Town Hall on Aging with HIV

The Reunion Project (TRP) is hosting a free, two-day summit where folks with HIV can connect with each other. TRP is an alliance dedicated to long-term HIV survivors where they advocate for folks with HIV by enacting calls to action on issues as well as policies that affect those who struggle with the disease.

The summit will take place on August 23-24 at St. Cajan’s Auraria Campus located at 101 Lawrence Way, Denver, CO. This event will follow the theme of “Thriving Together: Celebrating Resilience and Embracing the Future.” The summit’s goal is to educate and enact possible solutions that better serve those who have been living with HIV.

It is no secret that the LGBTQ+ community is plagued by the stereotype that they perpetuate HIV. Since the 80s, HIV has been a topic that many conservatives use in order to push a hateful agenda that is harmful to our community. Unfortunately, this virus is responsible for many deaths and while there are survivors, many live with the effects of this virus.

Dr. Kristine Erlandson, a professor at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, focuses her research on aging complications, aging mechanisms that prove to be successful, and the implementation of successful interventions for aging amongst people living with HIV.

As the statistics show, 50% of HIV patients are over the age of 50, and that number will rise to 70% in the year 2030. There have been significant advances in HIV treatment recently, but many of these treatments remain difficult to access for the general public. These workshops are crucial in informing the public about the special necessities to ensure that they can live the happiest of lives.

The summit will run from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. on both days. Sessions will address concerns of employment, health, and wellness of older individuals with HIV. Click here to join these sessions.
