The April 5 show at the Boulder Theater was no exception. Tlast night’s show at the Boulder Theater was no exception. The audience was pinned to the floor by these rock mini-symphonies, being pushed and pulled by the weight of the band’s reverb and heavy distortion, coming close to the head-crushing level of sonic power of My Bloody Valentine, then dipping down into beautiful, delicate instrumentation reminiscent of Sigur Ros.
The Rock Ballets show April 13 – 15 at the Performing Arts Complex at Pinnacle Charter School. Director and choreographer Garrett Ammon said, “Every ballet is a different beast. But I’m a very music driven choreographer.” And this particular ballet is what Ammon hopes will be “a visual experience akin to a graphic novel come to life.”
As directed by Michael J. Duran, “The Drowsy Chaperone” is an all-night non-stop whirlwind of hilarious send-ups of the musicals of the early 20th century. The show garnered Tonys for Best Book for a Musical, Best Costumes, Best Original Score, Best Scenic Design and Best Featured Actress in a Musical – Beth Leavell. The Drama Desk Awards even gave it the nod for Best Musical.
