Storming Denver: 5 indoor things to do during these insane monsoons
Hey Denverites. This rain is getting to me, is it getting to you? Denver boasts 300 days of sunshine, but what happens when the remaining 65 days all happen in a row? Denver is also known for its outdoor culture, so we may be a little lost when it comes to indoor activities, but as a native Iowan, I luckily have an arsenal of great activities to keep me interested while I wait for our own little monsoon season to pass. Try ’em out!
1. Crack open a book.
Reading isn’t for everyone, but you’ll be amazed how quickly time flies when you’re immersed in a good book.
2. Clean.
Chores suck, but if you’re gonna be trapped indoors, you might as well be trapped indoors that are clean. Bonus: there are health benefits. Cleaning burns calories, reduces stress, improves allergies and can even improve concentration.
3. Play a family board game.
Break out that old Monopoly board or Harry Potter Limited Edition Clue set and grab some people who won’t stab you in the eye when they land on your Boardwalk Hotel. There is nothing like inclement weather to motivate your inner Hogwarts sleuth or entrepreneur. Live alone? Puzzles!
4. Watch some movies.
So you can’t enjoy the sunshine. You know what you can enjoy? Popcorn with extra butter, a love seat, and Netflix. There is no wrong decision. TIP: My friend and I went to the movies once and he got popcorn and a side of nacho cheese and it is a super gross combination of total tastebud orgasm.
5. Call your mom.
You don’t have to wait for it to rain to do this, but you don’t call her enough. Might as well do it now.
5.5 Go Stormchasing.
So this is really dangerous but also really fun and does not count as an indoor activity. I don’t advise doing this without some trained meteorology students and I definitely don’t advise going with trained meteorology students with egos (Twister reference) but if you’ve never been on a high speed tornado chase, it is definitely an adrenaline rush you won’t soon forget.
