Southern Baptist Church welcomes gay community

The New Heart Community Church in La Mirada, CA has voted to change their views regarding homosexuality and wholeheartedly accepts the LGBT community.

Pastor Danny Cortez stated, “We will choose to remain the body of Christ and not cast judgement. We will work towards graceful dialogue in the midst of theological differences.” Cortez also stated to his congregation that he did not regard homosexuality as a sin and urged them to vote the way they did.

This change of heart took Cortez over 15 years to accept, and happened gradually by conversations with LGBT friends, a certain song by Macklemore, and the coming out of his son Drew.

The church’s decision might be costly: they may be uninvited to the Southern Baptist Convention, and several members of the congregation will be leaving June 8.
