Servicios De La Raza Le Recibe Con Brazos Abiertos (Servicios De La Raza Welcomes You With Open Arms)
FOR MORE THAN FOUR DECADES, Servicios de La Raza (Servicios) has responded to the unmet needs of the community and has become a household name among many Denver natives. As the oldest Latino-serving non-profit organization in the state, Servicios has a long-standing history of helping the community in various areas of need.
Its mission is to provide and advocate for culturally responsive essential human services and opportunities. Servicios is Denver’s “one- stop-shop,” offering programs for youth, victims of domestic violence, adult parolees and kinship and foster families, mental health services, basic emergency services like food bank and car seats, healthcare enrollment, and crucial services for people living with HIV/AIDS. Because of the value placed on the community, culture and language, Servicios serves as an integral part of the heart of the Latino community across Metro Denver and Colorado.
As a GLBTQ-friendly agency, Servicios is loud and proud to say so! It stands up and advocates for the rights of Denver’s residents, especially the GLBTQ community, Latinos, those living with HIV/AIDS, and other marginalized groups whose voices are not easily heard. The La Gente Program at Servicios has been serving people living with HIV/AIDS for nearly 20 years. Although the program specializes in bilingual HIV services for Latinos, it serves anyone living with the virus across the metro area with its unique approach to services. Program Coordinator, Jalene Salazar, says that “People who receive the services we offer in our program aren’t really clients; they’re more like family and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We’re confident they feel the same.” She continues, “Our goal is that anyone who comes through our doors will feel welcome, understood, respected, and that they have the support to help them gain the knowledge, skills, and empowerment to not only live happily and well with HIV, but to thrive.”
