Saucy DJ Irene to hit Climax at Vinyl
DJ Irene has been dropping the beats for audiences across the club nation since 1996, and now she’s back in the Mile High to make Denver’s Pride hot. Irene has been all over the country doing gig after gig and is pumped for her upcoming Denver performance. She will be performing June 17 at the Climax Sunday party at Vinyl.
Why do you love performing at Pride events?
It’s just the energy. Everyone’s in a good mood. It brings out a good time, and it’s all about getting out there together and having a good time. It makes the energy so much more … it steps it up a couple notches. I’m really excited. I played for Tracks, and I was on their float, and it was really fun. Any Pride that I’ve done is always really nice. Last year, I did Albuquerque, and it was really great, and I’m going back again. I’ve done Detroit, which is really amazing. I’ve done LA and Long Beach. Any Pride is always festive.
What is special about Denver PrideFest, specifically?
I have a special touch with Denver because I played for Denver for many years, and I’ve developed a big following out there. I’ve always played out there. The energy and the connection that I have with the people makes it so much different. My peeps in Denver are really energetic and really fun. They’re really loyal, and I love doing things like this.
Have you started work on any new album projects since your 2009 release of Dissonance?
I’ve been working in the studio on music, using artists and singers. It’s a learning curve because you’re working with different artists who sing, and things don’t work out, you’ve got to find another one, and some do work out. So I’m going to be coming out with a few singles this summer and some more tracks. So I’ve been busy in the studio and traveling because I basically do a lot of it on my own now. I wanted to have more control in hiring an engineer.
Will there be any songs that are going to be newly released before your Denver visit?
You know, the way music is nowadays, it comes and goes. You have one song that’s a real hit and then it disappears. So it all depends on what stays hip. By the time I get to Pride, I’m going to have a whole new list. I’ll look it over and get a whole new thing, but right now this is what I’m looking at. As long as it’s full of energy, and everyone is grinding and having a good time because people will be grinding. ]
