London-born/Brooklyn-based, queer singer-songwriter Joshua Thew is sharing his newest single and music video, the melancholic “Where Do The Feelings Go?” Check it out, premiering right here at OFM!
Looking back five years ago, with Thew working as a dancer and performing alongside top-tier talent from across the world in the New York City Ballet, it would appear that he had it all. All the while, he couldn’t shake the feeling that he was missing something. He knew music was his passion, and after nearly a decade with the company, he parted ways in 2017 to pursue another dream.
Thew first hit the music scene in 2019 with his debut singe, “Think You’re Getting Through.” The track gained 450,000 streams on Spotify alone, along with press coverage placing Thew’s name on the lips of listeners and music professionals alike.
The new track “Where Do The Feelings Go?” is a soulful offering, navigating the cognitive dissonance many of us feel after a relationship ends. As Thew dives into the aftermath of a breakup, his voice soars over a collection of synths, building continuously to an ear-catching chorus.
Thew elaborates on the song’s themes:
“There is something so strange and absurd about the abruptness of a breakup, like air suddenly deflating from a balloon. I tried to capture as close to the moment of separation as possible. It felt cathartic making this song, and I leaned on the music when I needed it. Sometimes it was more personal than I intended. I see it like a nighttime dream that’s sensual and sad.”
The track further shows off Thew’s sound, with visuals featuring choreography by former New York City Ballet principal dancer Janie Taylor. “Where Do The Feelings Go?” was created alongside Cale Hawkings, and the music video was directed by Sea Suozzi.
