Celebrating Pride on the limited scale of your laptop screen just doesn’t feel right, does it? The Center on Colfax agrees!
They’ve created a pandemic-friendly approach to PrideFest that won’t compromise your immune system or your enjoyment. From June 26-27, the Center will host a variety of PrideFest Hubs across the city where you can enjoy the sights, sounds, and flavors of Pride to their very fullest!
There will be six major “Hubs” of Pride activity spread throughout Denver, all free to the public. These Hubs will keep crowds at a manageable size while still ensuring the in-person experience we’ve been itching for the past year-and-a-half. Some locations do require advanced reservations for COVID safety, so make sure to check their websites sooner rather than later!
The Center on Colfax will serve as the headquarters of PrideFest with activities all weekend, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. both days. The event will feature a slew of exhibitors, food trucks, and entertainment aplenty. No reservation is required, so feel free to float in whenever the spirit of Pride moves you! Their website has all the information about PrideFest and their extensive work with the LGBTQ community of Colorado!
The Denver Museum of Nature & Science will serve as the second Hub and PrideFest’s official family area. There will be story times, magicians, music, all for the kiddos looking to get in on the Pride action! There will be three time slots you can secure tickets for on each day: 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; Noon to 1:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., June 26 and 27. Check their website ASAP to register for your spot!
For adults seeking a more 21+ experience, check out the Hamburger Mary’s Hub! The LGBTQ restaurant will be hosting a slate of drag shows with a curated drink list to properly celebrate being queer. Events will be 11 a.m. to midnight, June 26 and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., June 27. Their Facebook page has all the info.
The JCC Denver really pulled out all the stops for their PrideFest Hub. In addition to the usual food trucks, exhibitors, and music, they will also host a mobile vaccination clinic, an evening pool party, and a special performance of One Heart United, an original production written and presented by youth participants from The Center’s Rainbow Alley program. The main events will take place 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. June 26 and 27, and for those looking to cool off after a long day of outdoor festivities, the pool party will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., June 26. Check out their website for the specifics!
The SIE FilmCenter will be another Hub for adults looking to enjoy libations this weekend. They’ll have an outdoor bar complete with a special beer tasting from Ratio Brewery. While you sip on an assortment of craft beers, stroll through their variety of exhibitors or enjoy the stage that will host pop-up performances all day long. The Hub will be running on Sunday, June 27 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, visit denverfilm.org.
McGregor Square will be the final PrideFest Hub, operating June 27 from 11 a.m to 5 p.m. The recent Denver development will host a full day of food, entertainment and activities for Pride-goers looking to scope out the brand-new area. They will be hosting a ton of other summer activities as well, so make sure to check out their website for future events!
For people hesitant to join the celebrations in person, Denver PrideFest is offering digital activities as well. In addition to the Hubs, the festivities will include a virtual marketplace, an in-person/remote 5K race, and a virtual parade.
The Center on Colfax is the Rocky Mountain region’s largest LGBTQ community center, and PrideFest is their biggest fundraiser of the year. Whether it’s digitally or physically, make sure to get out there and support all the wonderful things they do for Colorado’s queer population! Happy Pride Month!!
