The Outside Festival and Summit landed at Denver’s Civic Center Park for the second time. The festival brought live music, speakers (like Alex Honnold), interactive art, climbing activities, food trucks, and booths with informational freebies. It was reported that 33,000 attendees were present on Saturday and Sunday, nearly doubling the attendance of the first year.
Over the course of the two days, OFM attended the shows of Khruangbin, Lord Huron, Sylvan Esso, Trampled by Turtles, Neal Francis, Waxahatchee, and Hazlett with the intention of capturing the emotions, or the surrender to the music, from the artists and the listeners.
Festivals are unique with how uniting they are. Those who were present in the crowd ranged from loyal out-of-state followers to first-time listeners. Strangers from all over the country gathered to hear the music live. Some stood their ground in the front row, while others sat comfortably on a blanket, on the grass, in a hammock, or even up in the trees.
The beautiful thing about the Outside Festival is that it was all outdoors. Between Red Rocks and Fiddler’s Green, Denver music-goers are familiar with outdoor shows come rain or shine—and it did, in fact, rain and shine. Neither kept the crowds away from being outside.
