Phil Weiser Campaign for Governor Tops $1 Million in Support
On February 6, Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser’s campaign for Governor announced that the campaign has exceeded $1 million in donations from more than 2,000 donors. Weiser’s campaign said they do not accept contributions from corporations or from corporate political action committees (PACs) meaning that all 2,917 donors are individuals.
In just under a month, (Weiser annouced his bid for Governor on January 2) his campaign has also received support from more than 50 progressive leaders across Colorado. Former Governor Romer announced his support for Weiser and said, “I am impressed by how hard Phil has worked as Attorney General … He understands how critical it is to know our state, to meet people where they live, and get to know how they see the world. He listens and gets results. That is what will make him a great Governor, and I’m proud to support him.” In the press release Weiser says, “We’re excited by the overwhelming support we’ve received from all corners of Colorado … It means so much that our supporters stepped up so strongly in such a short time to help us build powerful momentum for the work ahead.”
As Attorney General, Weiser has showed that he is willing to fight for our communities and things we care about like reproductive rights and affordable housing. Weiser has fought to protect the Reproductive Health Equity Act allowing Colorado doctors to perform abortion care to people regardless of where they are coming from. He has also held a corporate lanlord accountable when they ripped off their tenants.
We are all aware of the work ahead that Weiser references. The first month of the new administration has shown us where Trump’s and his appointees’ priorities lie. Weiser plans to continue to stand up for reproductive rights and freedoms, bring down the costs of living including groceries and housing, and protect the land, air, and water.
A way to effect great political change is to participate in local government and politics. Many things start small and grow greater and more impactful. It is important to know who is representing you on a large scale and a local one. I encourage you to research the people who are running for local office and decide who is going to best represent and fight for the things you hold dear. You can check your Colorado voter registration status through this link here, and you can use Ballotpedia no matter where in the U.S. you are to gather more information about your elections.
