Fans of the classic 70s flick depicting the fated evening between newly engaged Brad Majors and Janet Weiss and Frank-N-Furter’s chaotic cluster of intergalactic Transylvanians, gear up: The Phamaly Theatre Company presents The Rocky Horror Show.
The show is running August 12 through September 4 at the Su Teatro Cultural & Performing Arts Center in Denver and presented with arrangement by Concord Theatricals.
Phamaly Theatre Company has a long tradition of encouraging artists to “own who they are unapologetically.” According to the company website, Phamaly’s mission is “to be a creative home for theatre artists with disabilities; to model a disability-affirmative theatrical process; and to upend conventional narratives by transforming individuals, audiences, and the world.”
The Rocky Horror Picture Show is iconic programming that is at the forefront of groundbreaking counter-culture. The show is revolutionary in leading the way by breaking societal norms. Themes in the program center around sexuality and gender identity. Whether patrons are familiar with the show—or are Rocky Horror newbies—the message is one of welcome and belonging.
This cult favorite follows Brad and Janet who, stuck with a flat tire during a storm, find themselves at the door of Dr. Frank-N-Furter’s mansion. There, they meet a houseful of wild, eccentric characters. Through the use of a rock soundtrack and elaborate dances, Frank unveils his latest creation: a muscular man named Rocky. The program takes the audience on a journey to celebrate, liberate, and appreciate what makes everyone unique.
The Rocky Horror Show is directed by Caitlin Lowans and assisted by Graham Bryant. Heather Holt Hall directs the music, and the dance is choreographed by Jari Majewski.
Performances of The Rocky Horror Show will be both interactive and non-interactive. Interactive shows will welcome audience participation by encouraging singing and dancing along with the actors.
Phamaly Theatre Company values the safety of artists and patrons. Masks are required in the building and proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test within 72 hours is required. The company reserves the right to add or remove safety precautions at any time. Please do not attend the production if you are feeling ill.
