Organizations Celebrate #BiWeek

As you may know, September 16-23 is Bisexual Awareness Week aka #BiWeek, which culminates with Celebrate Bisexuality Day (aka Bi Visibility Day) on Wednesday, September 23. In honor of this, many LGBTQ organizations are doing their part to uplift bisexuals around the world.
Bisexuals make up the largest portion of the LGBTQ community, however, they are often erased from LGBTQ conversations and are at a higher risk of sexual assault and suicide. Bisexual advocate Robyn Ochs’ popular definition of bisexuality is,
“The potential to be attracted – romantically and/or sexually – to people of more than one sex and/or gender, not necessarily at the same time, not necessarily in the same way, and not necessarily to the same degree.”
GLADD released this tweet:
It’s officially #BiWeek 2020! Join us, @BRC_central, and @StillBisexual for a week of uplifting and honoring the bisexual+ community, its history, and its resilience. ???????????? ???????????? ???????????? ???????????? pic.twitter.com/qHFju5tA4q

Similarly, ILGA World wrote:
Happy Bi Awareness Week!
Bisexual, pansexual and queer identities are an essential part of the LGBTIQ global family: let’s celebrate them, and work together to educate others and accelerate acceptance and recognition – even within our communities! #BiWeek pic.twitter.com/4yqfKPQIBQ— ILGA World (@ILGAWORLD) September 16, 2020
But the most notable contribution to #BiWeek would have to go to the Trevor Project, which just released their first-ever guide on How To Support Bisexual Youth. The Trevor Project, for those who may not know, is the world’s largest suicide prevention and crisis intervention organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning young people.
The handbook is an introductory educational resource that covers a wide range of topics and best practices for supporting the bisexual youth in your life (which may include yourself), including: bisexuality, pansexuality, and other multisexual identities, romantic orientations, preventing bisexual erasure and biphobia, navigating gender and bisexuality, and much much more.
“We hope this resource will help people challenge biphobic assumptions in their everyday lives and foster the creation of safer, more affirming communities for bisexual youth everywhere.” Press Secretary of The Trevor Project, Rob Todaro told OUT FRONT.
