OFM Gallery: Autoheart and Pigeon Pit at Meow Wolf
Concertgoers at Meow Wolf were in for a treat on March 21, as U.K. queer art-pop trio Autoheart made their Denver debut alongside openers Reagan and Pigeon Pit. Lead singer Loams Oleander (Pigeon Pit) made use of every second on stage, taking the opportunity in between songs to preach kindness to your neighbors, stopping cop city, the continuous access to safe abortions, and the freeing of Palestine.
Along with their passionate words came even more passionate folk-punk songs, speaking on experiences she has had as a trans woman. Luckily for her, she is surrounded with a loving band on stage and a loyal group of fans singing and dancing to most every song.
Autoheart kicked off their set with “Lent,” a song from their debut album Punch. The band, composed of Jody Gadsden on vocals, Barney JC on bass, and Simon Neilson on piano, had recently released the original demos of this album on March 15, making the start to the show very fitting. Gadsden introduced their song “To Love You” by describing it as gay angst and maybe some joy. Each member took the time in between songs to once again thank the crowd for coming out far and wide to see them play over the years. “Love Is The Cure” was dedicated to all the fans who have written to them explaining the impact of their music on their lives. The remainder of the night was filled with dancing and celebrating queer joy through the music of Autoheart.
