New Accurate Polling Technique: Grindr

The question of Scottish independence has been flooding the news over the past month, and the results are in: 55% of people voted “no” on Scotland independence, and it will remain part of England. Voter turnout was massive with a whopping 86% of the population putting their opinions on the ballot. Who could have predicted such a large disparity between the yes’s and no’s?

Grindr.

A poll done by Tom Court was one of the earliest and most accurate readings collected throughout the polling process. Court asked 655 Grindr users, “Good evening, [username], do you believe Scotland should be an independent country?” and recorded their responses. It turns out that the Grindr survey ended with 54% of voters saying no — just 1% off from the real vote. When Buzzfeed asked Tom why he took on such a project, he responded:
