Mondo Guerra: Urban Nights

Mondo Guerra: Urban Nights

We hear you’re designing a line inspired by art produced by the Urban Peak youth. Assuming you’ve taken a look at the art and decided upon some pieces, what kinds of pieces can we expect from that inspiration?

The collection is inspired by moving forward and growth and I am really focusing on application. Exploring print techniques, applique, and hand embellishments, I am using the silhouettes as a canvas

Will the line you’re producing be available to the public, or is it more for the catwalk that evening?

I’m looking forward to this endeavor as an artistic release, so the collection for the Urban Nights Runway is pure exhibition. But you will definitely see similar silhouettes from the show in my S/S 2015 collection.

Will you make an appearance at the fashion show and if so, what will you be up to that evening?

As it is with every show, the work is never done until the last model hits the runway. So I’ll definitely be back stage working out the fine details!

How has Denver changed in the last few years and where do you see it going? (Is it getting better for artists/designers, or worse?)

I feel Colorado-based designers are continually working together to make progress in fashion.

Apart from the collaboration with Urban Peak, what’s Mondo been up to lately?

I’ve been very active in HIV/AIDS advocacy. I’m a spokesperson for Merck’s “I Design” campaign, which underscores the importance of people living with HIV/AIDS to work with their physicians on important treatment goals. I’m also a part of Subaru’s Dining Out for Life, which is an annual fundraising event where restaurants across North America donate a portion of their sales from one special night of dining to their local AIDS service organization.
