Mom Surprises Her Trans Teenager With Her First Dose Of Hormones
Corey Maison just received one of the best gifts of her life. The 14-year-old transgender girl from Detroit had been waiting two and a half years to start taking her first dose of hormones. Her mother, Erica, captured the emotional moment on her phone and uploaded it to Youtube. The video went viral, raking in more than a million views in less than four days.
Erica told Buzzfeed that the moments after the video cut was an emotional one for the both of them. “We were both crying and shaking. She literally took my breath away, as she has never given me a hug like that before. I have never felt so much love from her than that moment. It was a mixture of pure joy and relief from us both.”
Erica says that Corey has been feminine since she was young, which resulted in bullying in school. Bullying that got so bad in fifth grade that she had to be homeschooled. When Corey was 11, she saw one of transgender Youtuber Jazz Jenning’s videos and realized that she was the same. She was girl.
The family travelled hours away from their home in Detroit to the gender clinic at Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago in search of good therapist. It was a moment that changed their lives. Corey was given a puberty-suppressing implant just a few months later.
On September 24, Erica received a phone call from the pharmacy letting her know the estrogen prescription was ready to be picked up.“It was so surreal. I was shaking and crying the entire trip to the pharmacy. I was trying to think of the best way to tell her that the day she had been waiting two and a half years for was finally here,” she told Buzzfeed.
