The Merge Media Academy is a virtual media institution and the primary subset of The Merge Project. Their 10-month Digital Media Fundamentals Program is designed to prepare students to become independent content creators and to set them up for opportunities in all media disciplines.

Briggs’ career spans four decades in media broadcasting across the U.S. and U.K. Her diverse roles, from national afternoon host for Westwood One to TV anchoring at TXCN, showcase her adaptability and skill. Her leadership as CEO of The Merge Project and The Merge Media Academy is a testament to her visionary approach. Lynn’s experience as a program director, music director, and voiceover actor, coupled with her mentoring role at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), uniquely position her to guide the next generation of media professionals.
As the first African American Woman to spearhead a morning team in Dallas, and a nominee for the Texas Radio Hall of Fame, Briggs’ influence is undeniable. We caught up with Briggs to talk to her more about her company and how she gives back to other small businesses.
How long has Merge Media been active?
The Merge Media Academy commenced September 25, 2023.
What challenges have you had to overcome in your business life?
Transitioning from a media personality to an entrepreneur. Honing my leadership skills. Economic stability.
Building the right team. Learning to say no.
What sort of courses does Merge Media Academy provide?
The Merge Media Academy Digital Media Fundamentals program provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the dynamic world of digital media. Throughout the 10-month program, students will gain a deep understanding of the key components and tools used in digital media production, including content creation, video editing, audio production, and personal branding. They will also explore the principles of storytelling and how to effectively communicate messages through various digital media channels.
About how many people are enrolled per program?
The Merge Media Academy is a boutique learning institution that thrives on quality over quantity. Therefore, we’ve limited our enrollment to 20 students per program.
What would you say the benefits are for students taking Merge Media Academy courses as opposed to traditional higher education?
We offer a faster, more affordable (financing options/scholarships), way for students to focus completely on their chosen field and develop a career-relevant knowledge. And, as an alternative to a four-year university, we empower our students with the skill set to begin working in less than a year.
How do you serve the LGBTQ+ community and other marginalized communities?
The Merge Media Academy’s inclusion policy ensures that all members of our school community receive equal opportunities to succeed irrespective of their gender identity or sexual orientation.
What does the media industry look like here in Colorado, and how has it changed?
According to Denver Arts & Venues, “Colorado and Denver’s film and media industry is large, economically robust, and growing rapidly.” Although we’re based in Colorado, the Merge Media Academy is a virtual learning institution offering online media courses for students globally.
In terms of a community you serve, is there a particular background?
I champion the LGBTQ+ youth community, and I’ve been serving the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation for over two decades.
I read that your courses cost about $10,000 for the 10 month program, do you offer singular classes to help students prepare as well?
Yes. The 2024-2025 10-month program will offer a select number of singular classes, including audio/video editing, and podcasting.
What sort of resources do you provide to your students to help them with further employment?
My team and I have built a strong network of media professionals, which affords us to not only empower our students with the skill set to begin working in less than a year, but provide media placement for qualified students.
