Lil Nas X Returns to Social Media, Teases New Material

Lil Nas X

For an artist that got his start online, three months away from social media was a long time for fans to wait. Lil Nas X seemingly vanished from social media back in early December 2021, though fans can now breathe easy, as the queer artist has returned, along with assurance that new music is coming.

Two-time Grammy winning artist Lil Nas X reemerged on Twitter on March 16, replying to a fan’s tweet about the Disney movies Turning Red and Encanto. As fans noticed, and rejoiced, his return, he joked, “When did I leave?”

Before his resurgence, Lil Nas X last tweeted on December 6. Uproxx reported that he posted a string of tweets on December 17, confirming a positive COVID-19 diagnosis, though he deleted them soon after. Come February, XXL reported on the rapper’s absence, expressing fans’ concern about his health following his positive COVID-19 diagnosis. Fans also noted in February that Nas updated his Instagram bio, which had previously promoted his debut album Montero, with a note: “Love & miss u guys. Back soon,” along with a heart emoji.

Fear not—Lil Nas X has returned. He playfully referenced his fake pregnancy promotion for Montero on Twitter the day of his return, “Why are people surprised I’ve been away for so long? Have y’all really never heard of maternity leave?” followed by another tweet minutes later, “I’m so happy I’m back on the internet. I missed me so much.”

He spent the initial days back online updating fans on the happenings in his life, including a variety of hairstyles he tried out during the hiatus and teasing three brand-new songs. He also indicated that his second album is nearly finished.

“Which one y’all want first?” he asked on Twitter, with screenshots of two new tracks: “Late to the Party” features rapper NBA Youngboy; another track, “Down Souf Hoes,” features rapper Saucy Santana of “Material Girl” fame, which Nas calls a “strip club anthem.” He teased a third untitled track, asking fans who he should feature on it. The next day, he posted a TikTok lip-syncing to another new track, “Lean On My Body.”

The resurgence comes right before Lil Nas X’s Grammy performance with Jack Harlow, and it seems that a new era is upon us.

Welcome back, king!
