Kristen Stewart to Star in Sapphic A24 Thriller ‘Love Lies Bleeding’

Kristen Stewart

Kristen Stewart, a sapphic thriller, and A24 production? Sign us up! Bisexual icon Stewart has signed onto the new film, Love Lies Bleeding, directed by Rose Glass (behind the acclaimed British film, Saint Maud), according to an update from The Hollywood Reporter.

Glass wrote the film’s script with Weronika Tofilska, and sources tell the Reporter that the story centers on the extreme qualities it often to takes to succeed in the competitive bodybuilding world. Stewart will play the co-lead of the story, the protective lover of a woman bodybuilder. At the current stage, the companies describe the project as “a romance fueled by ego, desire, and the American dream.”

A24 will produce, alongside Andrea Cornwell for Lobo Films and Oliver Kassman for Escape Plan Productions. A24 is known for a number of new-classic horror films, like Hereditary and Midsommar from director Ari Aster, The VVitch, or more recently, X, which is still in theaters.

The production company is currently enjoying positive reception for its new multiverse action movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

Stewart’s co-lead has yet to be cast, through the filmmakers are hoping to fill the role as authentically as possible, and the search is currently underway.

Stewart has been in the spotlight for well over a decade, initially gaining prominence from the late-2000s hit Twilight saga. She collected her first Oscar nomination earlier this year for her role as future Princess of Wales Diane Spencer in the biopic Spencer.

This isn’t the first time Stewart’s represented her queerness in her roles, either. She starred in the holiday rom-com Happiest Season in 2020, though many audience members were disappointed by the story, which essentially had Stewart’s character pretending to be her partner’s “friend” through most of the film, as she accompanies her back home for the holidays.

While details are still sparse, we can’t wait to hear more about Love Lies Bleeding!
