Indeed Offers Help for Trans Workers
Indeed has made an offer for trans individuals and families with trans children who are seeking to relocate to safer states. The offer is $10,000 to assist with relocation for U.S.-based employees and was announced in 2023.
Indeed is a job search website created in November 2004. Despite not being a perfect company, Indeed’s offer is like a beacon of light in a dark cave. The $10,000 offer is extended to trans workers, workers with trans children, and workers with immediate family who are trans. The focus is to relocate eligible workers to a state where they may receive adequate gender-affirming care. Once eligibility is determined, they will receive a flat rate and be able to relocate.
In recent months, many anti-trans bills, bans, and laws have been approved in courts across the United States. This has made many states completely unsafe for those who are trans or have trans family members. In 2023 alone, there have been 496 anti-trans bills proposed. Of those 496 bills, 84 have been passed into law, 216 have been defeated, and the other 196 are advancing or have only just been introduced.
Most of these bans are aimed at trans children and show a complete lack of understanding of what gender-affirming care for children looks like. Gender-affirming care is different for everyone and can range from changing your name to getting started on hormone replacement therapy. For children, it is often just a wardrobe change, a different haircut, new toys, and/or consulting with a gender therapist.
Indeed is not the only company to offer benefits for their trans employees and employees’ families, but they are one of the more outspoken ones in their support for the LGBTQ+ community. Other companies who have been outspoken in their support of the LGBTQ+ community are Intuit, the maker of TurboTax and QuickBooks, Netflix, and Starbucks. All three of these companies offer gender-affirming care, including surgeries and HRT.
