One Colorado, the state’s leading LGBTQ+ advocacy organization, is announcing their “Get Out the Vote” (GOTV) Kick-Off event Hops to the Polls! We’re calling all queer supporters to vote in the upcoming 2024 presidential election to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard.
“Voting is an act of love, for ourselves, our neighbors, and future generations. When we vote, we’re not just choosing leaders; we’re choosing the kind of community we want to be. Let’s vote with joy, knowing that our commitment to our community will make a difference!” says Nadine Bridges (she/her), executive director of One Colorado.
Hops to the Polls is taking place on September 8 at Cerebral Brewing – Aurora Arts. The address is 9990 E Colfax Ave, Aurora, CO 80010. The event starts at 11:30 a.m. and ends at 1:30 p.m. with the main event starting at 12 p.m. There’s no cost, and parking is free. People of all ages are welcome and encouraged to learn and get involved in the movement.
One Colorado is the leading advocacy organization in Colorado, striving to create a brighter future for LGBTQ+ Coloradans and their families. The One Colorado Action Fund allows One Colorado to secure protection and opportunities for the queer community through local, grassroots, and statewide organizing and lobbying efforts. It’s all made possible by generous donations from people like you.
“Your support is a powerful, personal statement—ensuring direct action on the ground across the state for a fair and just Colorado,” their support page states.
This election cycle a pressing matter is on the ballot: the vote to repeal Colorado’s outdated ban on same-gender marriage, Amendment 43. Although gay marriage is federally recognized, Colorado is one of 30 states in the U.S. that still has this ban written in its constitution. Amendment 43 defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman exclusively. It was introduced in 2006 and just barely passed with a 56% majority. Nearly two decades have passed since then, and it’s time for a revision that will recognize the unions of all Coloradans.
Everyone deserves the right to marry the person they love.
