Homophobic boxer Tyson Fury apologizes … kind of

Earlier this month, heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury said some pretty homophobic things to the media. He compared homosexuality to pedophiles, and then defended his comments by telling those offended to “suck his balls,” which to us sounds pretty gay, but whatever.

His backlash stemmed from a change.org petition to remove fury from the short list of Sports Personality of the Year 2015 nominees, which garnered nearly 150,000 signatures. He called those who signed the petition a bunch of “wankers” after telling them to perform sexual favors on him.

He continued with, “people should look up to me, young kids. I am a good role model. I show how men should really be. Real men.”

This, obviously, did not help his case at all. Luckily, he did not snag the title of the best sports personality, and he seems to have learned his lesson. At least, that’s what he wants you to think.

“I’ve said a lot of stuff in the past, you know, and none of it with intentions to hurt anybody,” 27-year-old Fury said. “It’s all very tongue-in-cheek. It’s all fun and games to me.”

It’s funny, right? What you said was hysterical, right? Had us all laughing right along with you, right? Absolutely not.

“There are only three things that need to be accomplished before the devil comes home. One of them is homosexuality being legal in countries, one of them is abortion and the other one’s pedophilia. Who would have thought in the 50s and 60s that those first two would be legalized? When I say pedophiles can be made legal, that sounds like crazy talk doesn’t it? But back in the 50s and early 60s, for them first two to be made legal would have been looked on as a crazy man again.”

Dear Tyson,

I don’t see the humor. I see a narrow minded man. And honestly, this could be forgiven if you approached it in the right way. But telling us to “suck your balls” and then telling us that we aren’t “real men” isn’t the way to do it. You’d think after losing the title, you’d come with a sincere apology, but you are still playing it as a joke.

And no matter how many men you kiss, we will not forgive you until you hit us with a sincere apology. Admit that you were wrong. Admit that what you said was fucked up. Let the gay boys and girls who look up to you know the feelings they have for the same sex are not unnatural. Be a decent human being.
