Denver’s favorite immersive experience is making another quantum leap forward with “In Club We Trust,” a new art exhibit presented by Shadows Gather. The photographer’s newest project, it focuses on capturing the world of underground nightlife in the Mile High city. Quirky, gritty, and full of energy, each photographs tells quite a story.
The photos were shot with two cameras—a Fuji Neo Classic Mini and a disposable 35mm camera, and utilized an iPhone flashlight for lighting. Described as a “love letter to the uninhibited and the avant-garde” in a press release by Meow Wolf, each shot captures the glamorous and spirited vibe of Denver nightlife. Drag artists prepare backstage in some shots. They display a fierce, tenacious bravery with their artistry in the face of current political adversity, and the energy emitting from each shot is palpable. Other photos put the spotlight on vivacious and eccentric fashion seen at shows, the raucous fun had on the dance floor, and the camaraderie shared between partygoers.
“Shadows Gather’s work has always captured and honored the raw, unfiltered reality of those who defy societal expectations,” says Brandon Vargas, artist liaison for Meow Wolf. “I am so thrilled to show her work, as it shares many of the same qualities that make Meow Wolf attractive and intriguing—It’s a place where everyone can belong, create, and be their true selves.” The new exhibit certainly fits right in to Meow Wolf’s vibe. The quirky, gritty aesthetic shown in the gallery will definitely inspire patrons to take in the rambunctious fun of warehouse parties and raves in Denver’s underground scene.
The exhibit opened in February and will run until April 23. It is located in Galleri Gallery on C-Street in Meow Wolf. Admission to “In Club We Trust” is included with a standard ticket, and the space has also recently begun offering unlimited passes. Meow Wolf is located near Empower Field Station at 1338 1st Street in Denver.
