Friendship Takes Over Meow Wolf Danceportation
Everyone’s favorite Santa Fe-based art experience, Meow Wolf, brings us another Danceportation event, this time showcasing the artists of Friendship. Friendship is a music label, and although the lineup hasn’t yet been revealed, we know it’s going to be a good one!
Meow Wolf’s Danceportation: Friendship Takeover opens on December 2. The doors open at 9:30 p.m., and the music starts at 10:30 p.m. From there, guests can dance and enjoy themselves until 2:00 a.m., when the event ends. Please keep in mind that this event is 21-plus, so don’t forget your ID! Tickets are $70, and you can purchase them here.
Meow Wolf features local artists, both visual and not, frequently. Many of the pieces you see have elements from multiple creative minds, artists whose creative collaboration is on par with their skill. The live shows and events, such as the upcoming K+Lab and NotLö, feature indie musicians. This inclusion both helps artists find their footing to make their passions more than just a hobby and creates some wonderful work.
Meow Wolf started in 2008, in Sante Fe. A few artists got together with the common goal of publicly displaying their art. It emerged as a result of these artists building their skills together. Meow Wolf is a Benefit Corporation, which means that they believe in paying each artist they employ equally. Currently, there are locations in New Mexico, Colorado, Nevada, and Texas. Each establishment features an immersive atmosphere in a maximalist space. Surrealist worldbuilding, mystery corporations, and a few ARG (alternate reality game) elements are all present within the walls of Convergence Station, Omega Mart, The House of Eternal Return, and The Real Unreal. These aren’t just exhibits in a museum—Meow Wolf locations are art experiences, where your wonder and fascination becomes a part of the art, just as much as the art itself.
