Father-son Duo Launch LGBTQ Bar, Sir, in Downtown Denver

Sir

Following the opening of their Dallas cocktail bar, Mr. Misster, in 2019, Trey Stewart and his father Tyler are replicating the concept in Denver, as Mr. Misster’s “big brother” of sorts, with a new LGBTQ bar named Sir.

Sir will reside at 1822 Blake St., where Vesta operated for more than 20 years before shutting down due to the pandemic.

According to The Denver Post, the father-son duo visited Denver often and began to notice its similarities to Dallas. Trey also indicated he wanted to “plant some roots” in the Mile High City and began renting a second home in Denver last year.

Trey notes that they spent time observing what Denver’s LGBTQ scene was missing and found, while there are plenty of great bars, there was still room for more.

The duo plan for Sir to open in October from 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. on weekdays, with an earlier opening time, 11 a.m., on weekends. The space is 4,500 square feet (double Mr. Misster’s size) and also includes a kitchen. Denver-based Shike Design’s David Schaich is helping design the new space.

The bar will serve cocktails with dry ice and other garnishes, and they plan to put the kitchen to good use with a soon-to-come brunch and dinner menu. They also plan to have a DJ booth and drag brunches on weekends.

Trey tells the Post, “My dad owned some restaurants when I was growing up, so we know how fun food can be and how much Denver loves food. It’s also important to me to have some good food with the previous tenant being such an iconic space for a really good restaurant. So, I definitely didn’t want to flop on that aspect.”

Trey opened Mr. Misster with his father as a “leap of faith,” and though the Dallas bar has two other business partners, he and his father have full control of Sir. He says that his father visits the bar with his girlfriend often and acts as a parent figure for some of his friends and customers who do not have that same support. While Sir will cater to the LGBTQ community, Trey says he wants to create a space where “everyone can feel at home.”
