Give 5 Productions Announces its Extension of ‘Hedwig and the Angry Inch’
Due to overwhelming demand and a wave of positive reviews, Hedwig and the Angry Inch has announced an extension of its run at The Arch in Denver. Originally slated to conclude after 11 performances, the musical will now continue with three additional dates: August 19, 23, and 24. Each performance will be enhanced by a pre-show curated by local drag star Jessica L’Whor, adding an extra layer of excitement to the experience.
The show, which kicked off on August 1, was initially set to take place at Herman’s Hideaway. However, a last-minute venue change led to its relocation to The Arch in the RiNo Art District. Despite these logistical adjustments, the production has been lauded for maintaining a high standard of professionalism, proving that local theater can achieve excellence comparable to larger, more prominent productions.
Many theatergoers have expressed a deep personal connection to Hedwig and the Angry Inch, finding that this local rendition lives up to the quality of more well-known productions. The musical, renowned for exploring gender identity and self-discovery, has sparked ongoing debate about whether it should be considered a trans story. This discussion highlights the show’s thematic depth and resonance with diverse audiences.
Clark Destin Jones, who takes on the role of Hedwig, has received acclaim for his bold and confident performance. This production continues the tradition of having the same actor play both Hedwig and Tommy Gnosis, a choice that distinguishes it from the film adaptation.
The pre-show, orchestrated by Jessica L’Whor, features memorable performances by drag queens such as Khrys’taal and Petty Patty. Their vibrant acts provide a dynamic start to the evening, enhancing the overall experience. Additionally, the production cleverly incorporates local references, including landmarks and the recent venue change, enriching the audience’s connection to the performance.
Tickets for the extended run are available at www.hedwigdenver.com. Prices range from $29 to $59, with VIP tables offered for $220. The show also encourages attendees to embrace ’80s glam rock attire, with a costume contest adding to the festive atmosphere.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is presented by special arrangement with Broadway Licensing Global, ensuring a high-quality theatrical experience that continues to captivate and engage audiences.
