‘The Lovebirds’ back in Denver to open Coles Whalen show

I met Veronica May (of The Lovebirds) through Kim (O’Hara), at a karaoke bar of all places. And it’s very difficult to sound good in a karaoke bar. And she had one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard. I think people are equally excited to see her, people feel the same way I do, ‘Oh my god, Veronica May is going to be playing,’ and then I’m like ‘oh, yeah, I have to play also.’

The Lovebirds – award-winning San Diego songwriters Veronica May and Lindsay White – are band mates, but here’s the kicker: they’re soulmates too. The duo has been a romantic couple for two years. Their style is comprised of guitar and ukulele riffs, offering an old-timey love song feel but with a modern tempo and harmonies so tight you’ll swear in ecstasy or disbelief. Skating the line between folk and pop, The Lovebirds perform all original songs.

May, a Colorado native, made her name during her college years at Colorado State University. Since moving to San Diego she’s been leading bands and writing songs with the fervor of pure genius; skilled in guitar, piano and drums, she won the San Diego Music Award for Best Acoustic in 2008. Coming back to her old stomping grounds is a pleasure she eagerly awaits. “I miss it all, I freakin’ love Colorado on so many levels. The people are so genuine, accepting, loyal and kind. I just really can’t wait,” May said.

White is a San Diego favorite with the sweet demeanor and powerful voice to make her a recognizable act in the music industry. In 2011 she won first place in the San Diego Songwriters Guild Songwriting Contest. White is a musical force to be reckoned with, making The Lovebirds, a true testament to refined talent, unique lyricism and that lovin’ feelin’.

“We are so honored to be invited to play at the Coles Whalen show. When they came and played with us in San Diego a couple years ago, I was the girl in the audience with my jaw on the ground,” White said.
