Denver Gay Men’s Chorus Presents ‘Shout!’
Arguably, there is no better way to celebrate pride than by watching a bunch of gay men do a little dance while they sing their hearts out. Coincidentally, the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus (DGMC) will be doing just that, making everyone’s pride wishes come true with their three-stop concert series, “Shout!”
The DGMC is using pride this year as a way to honor how far the queer community has come. This year marks the 50th anniversary of Denver Pride, the DGMC looked back at their own roots, their first show ever was in 1982, called “From the Silence.” The juxtaposition between the words shout and silence were indeed purposeful. The DGMC is using this Pride to honor those who came before and took the first steps from the queer community being forced to stay silent to now, when they can shout.
“Shout!” will cater to many queer audiences by singing songs from a wide range of queer genres. For the classic gays, Elton John and Queen. For newborn gays and many “lesbians” who are so confused how they’re attracted to a man, Harry Styles. “True” lesbian moms and their besties, Tracy Chapman and Brandi Carlile. They are performing more songs by different artists—but you will just have to go see the performance to find out.
Opening night is at the Arvada Center on Thursday, June 13 at 7:30 p.m., followed by performances at Parsons Theatre in Northglenn on Sunday, June 16 at 2:00 p.m. and the Robert and Judi Newman Center for the Performing Arts at the University of Denver on Monday, June 17 at 7:30 p.m.
During the Pride concert series, DGMC will introduce the Julian Rush Community Impact Award, honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to Denver’s LGBTQ+ community. Named after Julian Rush, a pioneering Denver-based pastor, composer, playwright, and activist, the award recognizes outstanding service and advocacy.
Tickets for each venue can be purchased through the Denver Choruses website.
