Hosted by Denver City Councilwoman Sarah Parady, the event aims to put an ear to the Denver’s genderqueer community and address concerns and questions that we may have in the uncertainty of the current federal administration. Allies, friends, and caretakers are encouraged to join in and contribute their thoughts and feelings to the discussion. Also in attendance will be representatives from various local legal, medical, and advocacy communities to bring resources to the people and drive accessibility forwards.
Sarah Parady operates on the belief that even the smallest of wins are victories for the masses. She got her start in Colorado Legal Services, working to protect local homes and businesses from foreclosure. She was also the primary drafter for the Equal Pay for Equal Work act, which aims to close the gender gap by ensuring that employers must pay (as the name of the act implies) sexes equally for similar work.
She was also one of the man advocates for a change in a nationwide policy by the Centers for Disease Control that led to mammogram coverage for low-income transgender women.
In a time where the world seems to be changing rapidly and not for the better, it is very easy to let fear get the better of us. However, it is also in these sorts of times that banding together and standing up is not only more impactful, but more important, than ever. It’s a chance to learn how to help, and to gain some certainty for next steps. Beyond being an event for advocacy, however, this Town Hall is an opportunity for connection, and a chance to meet individuals in similar situations, in similar circumstances.
Let’s have a little hope this spring.
