The Denver Choruses Announce Upcoming 2024-2025 Season

The Denver Gay Men’s Chorus (DGMC) and Denver Women’s Chorus (DWC) have announced their upcoming 2024-2025 season.

Starting in November 2024, the DWC will kick off the slate with Do You Hear the People Sing. The show will “carry themes of civic engagement and collective protest” through songs from Broadway hits like Les Misérables and Hadestown.

In December, the DGMC will highlight cheer, love, and acceptance in its holiday show, North Pole Brigayde. This year, the holiday concert will take audiences on a journey through the Rocky Moutains, showcasing the importance of self-expression through what DGMC artistic director Johnny Nicolas Jr. calls the “diverse paths we tread.”

Singing songs from Billie Elish and Tears for Fears, the DWC’s February show, Do Not Despair, covers “invisible disabilities” such as “mental health struggles, ADHD, diabetes, and arthritis.”

In March 2025, the DGMC will team up with the Colorado Jazz Repertory Orchestra for Crazy 4 You, a jazz-infused concert that is sure to transport audiences back to the era of the Harlem Renaissance. This concert will educate and expose spectators to the “iconic fusion of LGBTQIA+ culture and jazz that defined the era.”

For the first time since 2019, the DGMC and DWC will participate in a co-chorus collaboration for June 2025’s Pride Month show, Leather and Lace. This concert also focuses on how important it is to embrace each other’s differences, “from leather to lace.” Featuring songs like Chaka Khan’s “I’m Every Woman,” this is a celebration of queer people’s community and “unapologetic authenticity.”

There is also Disco Derby, a one-night-only show in May that features 70s and 80s hits complete with roller skates, roller blades, and a lot of glitter.

The DGMC was founded in 1982 and the DWC in 1984, seeking to create a safe and affirming environment for creative expression. The groups pride themselves on their dedication to uplifting the LGBTQ+ community through choral music. They aim to educate audiences about LGBTQ+ history and current challenges to the safety, rights, and acceptance of queer people.

Beyond its concerts, the nonprofit strives to support activism within the Colorado and LGBTQ+ communities. Attending these shows is a great way to get connected with the community and to support queer art. The Denver Choruses also offer free tickets to LGBTQ+ student groups and those going through financial hardships. You can audition for the DGMC or DWC and buy tickets for its 2024–2025 season shows here.
