‘Daily Show’ Food Truck denies BBQ to ‘gay’ people in North Carolina

There’s no denying that North Carolina’s legislature houses some of the most anti-queer laws in the country. So much so, our little fingers are tired of dragging themselves across the keyboard to type the 14 keys that spell out the state. But, today we type it out with a bit of laughter.

No … there is nothing laughable about HB 2, which is commonly referred to as the bathroom bill and is extremely anti-queer as it prohibits trans people from using the bathroom that matches their gender identity. But, when The Daily Show sets up a homophobic fast food truck in Raleigh that refuses to serve anyone its employees believe to be gay, we can’t help but giggle.

“I wanted to show North Carolinians what HB2 would look like in action, so I rented a food truck, made up a fake barbecue company and set out to refuse service to people by telling them they’re gay,” said correspondent Roy Wood Jr.

“Let’s be clear,” he added. “I don’t care if they’re gay or not, but HB2 says I can do this Jim Crow-level sh*t and nobody can stop me.”

Most people in the video are in shock. Many are confused. All of them are upset. And until a pastor proclaims that even if he were gay, the food truck should still serve him.

He’s not alone as 70 percent of North Carolinians feel HB2 is bad for their state.
