Bisexual People Removed from Stonewall National Monument Website
According to Pink News, National Park Service (NPS) has removed bisexual individuals from the the Stonewall National Monument website.
It started after the Trump Administration got rid of several DEI programs located in the US. Soon, the NPS removed trans individuals like Marsha P. Johnson and Sylvia Rivera from the site, both of whom were a major part of the Stonewall riots. Now, the website is devoid of most bisexual people, who were part of the movement.
This is not a surprising development, as unfortunate as it might be. There have been plenty of examples throughout history where a hate group targeted one minority then moved on to another. Nazi Germany is one of the most well-known examples out there, targeting every minority with their hatred and cruelty.
As of the present, Trump is doing the same thing. First, he goes after trans people, and now, he has moved on to bisexuals. Soon, he may move onto gay people, people of color, Jewish people etc. until he erases us all. This might sound like an overreaction, but many queer people have been harmed or killed just for being who they are in our modern world. We cannot let this slide and must fight for our rights as we’ve always had.
In the same Pink News article, many people marched and signed a petition to stop queer erasure from happening. Activist Tanya Asapansa-Johnson Walker declares queer folks have “been here since the beginning of time,” and they “will not be erased by a Christo-fascist, neo-Nazi administration.” I have never heard a more true statement.
We will not back down; we will not go unrecognized. We will continue fighting and live our lives to the fullest, and no one can stop us. Queers will always be here, no matter what.
