“Beautiful Something” Is Another Film About Gay Men Looking For Something, But It’s Still Worth It
Before I begin this post, I have to ask: What is with film and television focusing so highly on gay men “looking” for something?
Two nights ago, “Beautiful Something,” a film by Joseph Graham, screened at L.A.’s Outfest. The film follows four gay men as they cruise the streets of Philadelphia searching for an “elusive” human connection.
Brian (Brian Sheppard) is a poet with a deadline and needing to find a distraction. Drew (Colman Domingo), a celebrated sculptor in love with his muse, Jim (Zack Ryan), who actually yearns for freedom from his attentions.
And finally there’s Bob (John Lescault), a wealthy but alcoholic talent agent spending his middle age trolling for a “beautiful something.”
After watching the film, it was actually much better than I anticipated. Like all films there were minor flaws, but for the most part I can look past those.
Watch the trailer below. And look for “Beautiful Something” soon.
