If you identify as trans and use an iPhone, then you will be very happy about Apple‘s newest update. The trans Pride flag emoji has finally arrived.
The iOS 14.2 update for the iPhone and iPad will include new wallpapers, HomePod features, bug fixes, and more than 100 brand new emojis. In addition to the trans Pride flag, other upcoming emojis will include a symbol representing the intersex community, and a gender-fluid bride and groom.
NewNowNext first reported in January that the new emojis were approved for Emoji v13.0 by Unicode Consortium, the tech group that sets the industry standard for emoji options across different platforms and devices. The rainbow LGBTQ Pride flag was added back in 2016.
“We separate people into different ’kinds’ of people, but the kind thing to do is to see everyone as our kin,” said Paul Hunt, the designer behind Unicode’s first gender-inclusive emoji. “I hope the work I am doing is helping us to be able to see that we are all more similar than we are different.”
