Al Calderon is definitely in his “main character” season this year.
Following two successful tracks, he is ready to continue his time in the limelight with his new single, “Center of Attention.” Co-written and produced in one session with The Orphanage duo– Trevor Brown and Zaire Koalo (Kehlani, Demi Lovato, Bebe Rexha), the single sounds modern and fills a void that, for the most part, has been left untouched by male artists today, giving it a familiar feeling as it features elements from male-led 2000s RnB and pop music.
An actor, songwriter, and artist, as well as an LA transplant from New York, Calderon began working on his craft professionally in the Radio City Christmas Spectacular, on Broadway in the musical 13, and Off-Broadway in The Burnt Part Boys. His on-stage work allowed him to fuse his love for music and performance together at an early age. He continues to work as an actor, mastering his craft in shows including, The Walking Dead: World Beyond and STARZ’s Step Up: High Water.
Calderon’s passion lies in his music as he strives to create and perform unique and relatable pop/R&B songs. From his time on The X Factor, he was able to amass a loyal and substantially sized following that has supported his musical career. Calderon found success after co-writing “Electric,” the single was then released by Katy Perry and featured on the Pokémon 25 soundtrack. His own releases have also garnered significant attention, including “Heartbreak Szn,” which was featured on Apple Music’s New Music Daily, and “No Hard Feelings” editorial playlist placement in Spotify’s “NY Pop” and “Young, Wild, & Free.”
Talking about “Center of Attention,” Calderon says: “It was a very nostalgic feeling, bringing out the sounds of the 2000s, while we were still creating something with a very current ‘feel.’ A lot of the production in the track reminds me of Timbaland’s collab with Justin Timberlake during that time period. We (Al Calderon, Trevor Brown, and Zaire Koalo) started freestyling melodies. They are such incredible sounding boards that writing with them is easy and they’re great about validating my ideas.”
