Clearheads Booze-Free Hang Series Kicks of April 3

Clearheads

For folks who don’t drink, in midst of the alcohol-centric culture of Colorado, it can sometimes be challenging to find communal spaces that stray away from booze. Clearheads: A Booze-Free Hang—a monthly gathering of art, music, and culture without alcohol—is here to help.

The series is a four-month, beta program funded through the Denver Music Advancement Fund, conceptualized by award-winning musician and community leader Jen Korte, who has contributed to Denver’s music community for 16 years. Korte saw this need for a safe space for her sober peers and community to gather, perform, and experience art without intoxicated patrons or pressure from a venue to keep people consuming alcohol.

It’s Korte’s hope to shift the economic relationship of alcohol and events by changing what these events offer to patrons, aside from booze. By taking alcohol out of the equation, it offers more opportunities to be creative with non-alcoholic options and also allows the space to offer access to all ages, not just those over 21 years old.

Each month will feature a BIPOC-owned food truck, local non-alcoholic products like cold coffees, kombucha, alcohol spirits, local produce, small art vendors, and entertainment showcasing underserved artists.

The series will be held at Fort Greene, a historic building located in Globeville and owned by Eleanor Cheetham.

The series kicks off Sunday, April 3 from 12 to 4 p.m. and will continue monthly through July. The first event will feature performances by Kayla Marque, Alysia Kraft, and DJ Simone Says. Mux Mool, Its Dozier, Jelie & Juice Box, and more will be featured in future events. The first featured food truck is Maiz, a Denver-based food truck serving traditional Mexican dishes with a Colorado twist, founded by Maria Rengal.

Two dollars from each ticket will also go toward supporting local nonprofit Joy as Resistance, which is dedicated to promoting hope and joy for LGBTQ youth ages 10 to 24 in Colorado, offering mental health counseling services for youth and their families, mentorship through their program “Big Queer, Little Queer,” and a variety of consultation services through their school partnerships.

Tickets for the April event are on sale now.
