SOPHIE Debut EP, ‘Nothing More To Say,’ Being Reissued

SOPHIE

SOPHIE’s legacy lives on, as record label Huntley’s + Palmers plans to reissue her debut EP after demand increased following her death, reported by Resident Advisor. Proceeds will go to the Scottish Trans Alliance.

The reissued EP will feature vocal and dub versions of the song “Nothing More To Say,” along with the track “EEEHHH.”

The artist tragically died in an accident in Athens, Greece, back in January, and she was known for not only pushing the boundaries and conventions of genre, experimentation, and pop music, but she was a beloved figure as an out and visible trans woman and artist.

She publicly came out and affirmed herself as a trans woman through her 2018 song, “It’s Okay To Cry.” It was her first song to feature her own vocals, and the music video was also the first time she very publicly showed her face to fans, beforehand often being a fairly elusive figure.

She’s largely credited to help popularize the hyperpop genre, along with other PC Music producers like A.G. Cook, who was a collaborator of SOPHIE.

SOPHIE also produced for other artists, working heavily with Charli XCX along with others like Madonna, Kim Petras, Vince Staples, and Shygirl.

“I wish I had told her more how special she was, not just her music, but her as a person,” Charli XCX said in a statement on Twitter in February. “I love you, and I will never forget you Sophie.”

Following her passing in the midst of the pandemic, a number of queer, online dance parties emerged over that weekend to pay tribute to the artist, with DJs creating custom sets to highlight the innovative music from her discography. And the tributes have continued over the year since her passing.

A fan petition in February called for NASA to name the plant TOI 1338 b after Sophie, as the planet is reportedly the color of soft pinks and blues present on the cover of her debut album, OIL OF EVERY PEARL’S UN-INSIDES. The petition has just over 95,000 signatures at the time of publication.
