GoFundMe Launches ‘Uplift LGBTQ Lives’ Initiative

In celebration of the collective resilience, and in recognition of Pride still being different this year, GoFundMe has created the Uplift LGBTQ Lives’ initiative as a way for people to engage and support one another more easily. They have put together a Pride Page that acts as a hub connecting people to the many different fundraisers that have been put together. They feature fundraisers for queer artists and creatives, nightlife venues, gender confirmation surgeries, and other, queer-related fundraisers. Each fundraiser has been verified by the GoFundMe team and is updated as new fundraisers are created and verified. 

GoFundMe has also put together their own fundraiser, the Pride Cause Fund. This fundraiser is intended to celebrate queer lives and those who work to support the community. You may be eligible for a grant if you provide a safe space, resources, or services for the LGBTQ community at free or low cost. You may also be eligible if you are promoting inclusion through events or advocating for equal rights locally or nationally.

In 2020, the queer community came together support each other in many ways, one being on GoFundMe. According to GoFundMe, 1.2 million donors gave more than $60 million, cumulatively, to different, LGBTQ-related causes. During one of the hardest years, the queer community stepped up like never before and utilized the online platform GoFundMe to help queer venues stay open, the trans community fundraise for medical bills, help individuals avoid eviction in the wake of job loss, and so much more. 

Pride still feels and looks different than it has in past years, but there is one thing that has remained: the spirit of support and inclusion for all of those who are in the community, by the community!
