PRIDE Goes County-Wide in Boulder for 2021

Boulder Pride

Out Boulder County has recently announced changes in how Pride will be celebrated this year in Boulder County. In previous years, Pride was celebrated during Pride month in Longmont, and in Boulder during the month of September. Now, Out Boulder County is planning to bring together all of Boulder County for one Pride celebration during June, the traditional Pride month.

While Boulder County’s COVID-19 restrictions are subject to change, for now, the Pride celebrations will follow health and safety guidelines and hold events virtually or physically distanced. Events for this year’s Pride will begin June 6 and end June 13 and will take place all over Boulder County. There will be events for all ages and will be free to the public.

This event hopes to bring communities from all over the county together in celebration of the LGBTQ community. Each year, Pride is celebrated in commemoration of the catalyst for the LGBTQ rights movement. In June of 1969, the Stonewall Inn uprisings sparked the annual celebration of the queer community. Since that historic event, the queer community and its allies have participated in rallies, demonstrations, marches, calls to action, and more recently, celebrations.

Despite some of the events being held virtually this year, some will be in person while requiring physical distancing. The event that will most likely create the biggest draw will be the three motorcades which will take place Sunday, June 13. This event will be held in Longmont at 9 a.m., Boulder at 1 p.m., and Lafayette at 4 p.m.  The motorcades will replace the traditional foot marches by allowing participants to remain in their cars and have a motor vehicle parade. People may also participate by safely lining the streets to watch the procession.

With the cancellation of Pride all over the country last year, this year’s Boulder County Pride will be a fun and special celebration for everyone.
