Kat Hamilton Helps Save Queer Youth with “Recovery Friends”
Intersectionality, accessibility, and squashing the sexist, patriarchal norms through queer…
L.A.-based singer-songwriter Kat Hamilton recently released her debut indie rock album, Recovery Songs. Fresh off the release and her first full-length venture, she is upping the queer ante with a remix album. The charity compilation, Recovery Friends, showcases artists from all over the country re-interpreting Hamilton’s heartfelt songs in their own unique style for a great cause. All Bandcamp proceeds will be going to the lifesaving LGBTQ organization The Trevor Project.
Beginning on May 3, Recovery Friends will be available exclusively on Bandcamp and will be priced at $10. The goal behind the project is to show off incredible talent while raising money for the underserved LGBTQ community. As Hamilton has crafted an intimate blend of rock, pop, Americana, and emo genres, Recovery Friends is the exploration of those powerful tracks and delivered in a re-imagined package.
The debut, nine-track album was originally released as a narrative of resilience, representing the singer’s real-life experiences and struggles. Touching on topics such as addiction, trauma, loss, and recovery, this debut solo release is deeply personal and intimate yet sincerely relatable for listeners who may or may not relate to the personal struggles and issues brought up throughout the story.
Similar to her own experience, Hamilton hopes that her music may be a solace to those in need, getting them through their pain when nothing else can. Now, with the release of Recovery Friends, she can truly be of service to the LGBTQ youth suicide prevention program with the donation of her album proceeds.
Additionally, Hamilton has released a short, documentary series centered around the track “Medicine Line” from Recovery Songs, where she explores important mental health questions around identity and the importance of healthy self-talk.
