OUTMUSIK

October 11 is National Coming Out Day! This year marks the 32nd anniversary of this special occasion. What a better way to celebrate coming out with OutMusik online festival. It’s queer. It’s free. Say no more.

“Love in its many forms is an undeniable, universal right,” claims OutMusik founder, host, and performer Georgel.

The festival will be streamed here. OutMusik plans to be in-person next year. Hosts include Esteman, Georgel, and Raymit. There will also be guest appearances by: LP, Mabiland, Maite Perroni, Consolo Duvale, Christian Chávez, Lila Downs, Chiquis Rivera, and many more.

“We’re here. We exist,” says Georgel. This festival is dedicated to being a place for LGBTQ persons.

“OutMusik.com will be a permanent resource for the LGBTQ+ community. Providing access to news, assistance for mental health issues, and at the same time, it will be a platform for LGBTQ+ artists around the world to spread their work, report cases of injustice, homophobia or transphobia in the music industry,” he adds.

Their message is simple: “Our main focus is to stimulate the representation of the LGBTQ+ community in the mainstream media in ways that make new generations feel valued and heard.”

If you cannot watch the livestream, you can listen to the performances on Spotify. On the OutMusikwebpage, the artists and founders will be answering questions in the chat box.
“Why not now? It’s taken too long for the LGBTQ community to have representation, to have a space in the mainstream media. The fact that is has to be online does present an opportunity for us to be heard,” says performer and artist Mabiland. “Music creates a space for freedom. The LGBTQ community is a direct correlation of that.”
Mabiland and Georgel just released a new track they’ve been cooking up. You can listen to it here.

“This has been brewing in our spirits; it’s time to come out,” says Georgel. “Ecologically, socially, the world is in pain. This is our way of giving back, and to start healing.”
The festival will be live at 5 p.m. CST. There are direct links to support The Trevor Project and It gets Better Project.
“Latin American cultures are heavily influenced by T.V. Yet, on mainstream media, LGBTA representation isn’t there. We pretty much don’t exist. We want future generations to have representation to look up too,” says Georgel.
¡Que chimba! translates to “how cool.” Outmusik is a chance to embrace in different culture’s music right from home, be open to whats around you, and directly support original artists being nothing but themselves.
