Fall and Winter Skincare 101: Tips for Transitioning and Taking Care of All Things Skin

It can be overwhelming to know where to start with your skincare. Gauging where your skin is and knowing how to properly address your skincare concerns is a good place to start. Stress, free-radical damage (air pollutants) health challenges, diet, and medications can have an impact on the overall health of your skin.
What are your realistic skincare goals? I encourage clients to focus on keeping realistic goals. Most editorials you see in print or online are heavily airbrushed and edited.
My recommendation is to use an a.m. and p.m. skincare routine.
The amount of pollutants our skin picks up during the day is increasing due to the climate change. This is where cleansing (twice daily) is imperative for healthy skin and making sure your products are working efficiently.
Even as the summer fades, it’s important to continue using an SPF (Dermatologists recommend every two hours). There are a lot of great benefits to the sun for overall health, but when it comes to your skin, it’s important to cover up! The sun can accelerate aging and increase the risks of skin cancer. If you’re sensitive to sunscreen you want to make sure you are using the right SPF.
Tips for Transitioning
For those starting hormone therapy treatments or other gender-affirming procedures, go you! But keep in mind, these treatments can also cause drastic changes to your skin. Hormone therapy can affect the skin in many ways.
If you’re taking estrogen, it can alter the amount of sebum produced on the skin. The function of sebum is to keep the skin looking healthy and prevent dryness. If you’re prone to dry skin, while taking estrogen, you may experience even more dry and itchy skin than usual. Using a moisturizer without synthetic fragrance is recommended. Consult with a dermatologist If you start experiencing extreme changes.
Tula is an awesome skincare line to try if you’re looking for a new moisturizer.
Probiotics in Vitamins and Supplements
Taking a daily probiotic vitamin or supplement can help reduce bloating, support skin smoothness, and improve skin hydration.
Superfoods in Skincare
Superfoods are high-quality ingredients known for their health benefits. They are packed with micronutrients like vitamins and organic acids to nourish the skin.
If you’re taking testosterone, it can increase Sebum production. This can increase hormonal acne and cystic acne which can lead to scarring.
Try a gentle cleanser and light moisturizer with Salicylic acid and tea tree oil (avoid the eye area).
Transition Your Skincare from Summer to Fall and Winter
•Switch to something richer
• Use a cleanser with hydrating benefits
•Add an eye cream (a.m. and p.m.)
•Use a mask up to two times a week.
•Use an exfoliating scrub or an AHA/Latic Acid mask to keep the dead skin in check.
•SPF!
