Lady Red Couture had passed away on July 25 in Los Angeles, California. The comedian and drag performer is also a part of the talk show Hey Qween alongside Jonny McGovern. Hey Qween was started in 2014, originally being able to be streamed on YouTube before making its way on Amazon Prime. The show featured guests well known in the LGBTQ community such as RuPaul, Farrah Moan, and other drag performers.
Moving from Utah to LA Lady Red became a prominent figure in the LGBTQ community as she became one of the early drag performers in the scene.
Lady Red was in intensive care due to complications with cyclic vomiting syndrome. Her cohost on the talk show kept their audience up to date on her status. Announcing her death to the world, McGovern stated “I know she meant so much to so many people… I beg you all for your understanding in allowing her family and I and those who were close to her to grieve in private until we can come to grip with this tragic loss. All the generous donations to her Venmo over this week will go to her family… But for today all I can do is cry and mourn the giant loss of my sister, creative partner and best friend.”

McGovern also helped create a GoFundMe to help Lady Red’s sister in funeral arrangements and hospital bills. Donations are also being accepted through her Venmo under the name LadyRedCouture.
Shangela expressed her feelings in an Instagram post stating “If you knew her, you loved her. That was the joy she carried within her beautiful soul. I’ll always remember your laugh sister. And your hugs.”
Lady Red spread love through her performances and simply by just being who she is. She described herself as “the largest live-singing drag queen in captivity.”
