Sound Up! Anjimile

Anjimile

Anjimile Chithambo paints a beautiful picture with his songs, deriving passion from the curation of a story told in poetic symphony. While he draws creative inspiration from the African pop his parents loved when he was growing, he blends it with the soul of a chorus and molds it into something revealing and revolutionary.  Now, the trans, queer singer/songwriter is delivering a new single that exemplifies the elements in which he built a foundation of creation upon.

Anjimile explores self-reflection through the gentle, soft song “Maker.” Through his internal exploration, listeners are given the slightest insight into the complexities of his journey. With a gentle introduction of the guitar lending space for the soul-searching lyrics, the song builds as Anjimile begs the question, “Have you ever seen anything quite like this?”

In “Maker,” he addresses himself as not just a boy, but a man, a god and a maker, driving forward the themes of loss alongside personal growth. The song is soothing in its honest presentation and yet is a call to action for us all to explore where we’ve come from in order to understand where we are going.

Anjimile has just announced his debut, full-length album, Giver Taker, which is slated for release on September 18. Inspired by faith, addiction, and Anjimile’s own transition, it’s said that the album is like a story in which each song encompasses a larger voyage of self-discovery. Since aspects of his faith and his own trans identity can clash, he uses this album as a way to explore these dichotomies.

As Anjimile puts it, Giver Taker captures his ability to not only survive hardships, but grow into the person he was always meant to be.

Now, it’s time to turn that sound up and get lost in the reality that Anjimile has manifested for himself.
