Cirque du Soleil’s TORUK Takes Flight in Denver

Playing at the Pepsi Center July 21 – 24, Cirque Du Soleil’s newest offering, inspired by James Cameron’s blockbuster film, AVATAR.

TORUK – The First Flight, is a live, multi-media, interactive experience set thousands of years before the time that is depicted in the film — a prequel of sorts.

The word Toruk, in the Na’vi language, refers to the great leonopteryx, the mighty red and orange pterodactyl-looking predator that rules the Pandoran sky. Central in Na’vi lore and culture, this fascinating creature is crucial to the clans’ sense of destiny and interconnectedness.

The creators of the theatrical stage production use a mix of dynamic costumes, intricate set pieces, vivid light projections, high-tech special effects, captivating cirque-music, awe inspiring choreography and seemingly impossible acrobatics to tell a whole new story about the Na’vi People.

Unlike most theatrical performances, TORUK is the first show of it’s kind that wont be playing the pre-show-announcement telling everyone to mute or turn off their cell phones. Quite the opposite! TORUK is the first Cirque du Soleil show that allows spectators to use their mobile devices during the show. Before the audience even steps foot into the arena, they are encouraged to download the TORUK – The First Flight mobile app to immerse themselves into the world of Pandora and to learn more about the characters and mythical storyline inspired by Cameron’s movie.

“When we set out to create a show that provided an unparalleled audience experience,” said Louis Malafarina, senior director, Corporate Alliances, Cirque du Soleil. “We believe the TORUK – The First Flight mobile app will help enhance the overall spectator experience, bringing fans deeper into the world of Pandora in ways they never thought possible.”

Throughout the performance, the first-of-its-kind app enables audience members to be a part of the action before, during and after the performance. The app is available now through the Apple Store and Google Play.
