Fight HIV/AIDS by donating & Snapchat

Today is World AIDS Day, a day to remember those lost to the disease and call attention to the fact that the epidemic is not over, and as people world wide gather to remember their friends, family, and strangers that we have lost to the disease we can’t forget that the fight is far from being over.

With an estimated 36.9 million people living with the HIV or AIDS worldwide, the theme for the 27th World AIDS Day is “The Time to Act is Now,” a call to implement the latest HIV prevention strategies, such as PrEP and PEP. But today is also Giving Tuesday, a social media movement that began four years ago, and focuses on giving and being philanthropic. Celebrate both World AIDS Day and Giving Tuesday, by donating to an organization, or two, that helps combat HIV and AIDS.

Denver Colorado AIDS Project
The Denver Colorado AIDS Project has been helping the people of Denver, and the surrounding areas, for 31 years. Their mission is “is to equitably meet the evolving needs of people affected by HIV and other disease through prevention, care and advocacy.” DCAP helps those living with HIV or AIDS with transportation, access to medication, in-home counseling, housing and insurance, dental work, and nutritional resources. They also offer services for prevention, and are 100 percent confidential.

DCAP’s caseload of 2,600 individuals represents 70 percent of the clients served statewide. Services are provided at no cost, and are offered without regard to age, sex, race, religion, disability, sexual orientation or gender expression.

Donating to DCAP, ensures that every dollar you donate, 88 cents will go directly to providing services to some of the most disenfranchised individuals in communities across Colorado.

International AIDS Society
The International AIDS Society is world’s leading independent association of HIV professionals. The group has more than 14,000 members, from more than 190 countries, working as researchers, from all disciplines, clinicians, public health and community practitioners on the front lines of the epidemic, as well as policy and program planners.

The IAS organizes tow of the world’s best HIV conferences. The International AIDS Conference is the largest conference on any global health or development issue, and provides a unique forum for the intersection of science and advocacy. The IAS Conference on Pathogenesis, Treatment and Prevention brings together a broad cross section of HIV professionals and features the latest HIV science, with a focus on implementation.

The IAS is trying to stop an epidemic, while protecting the rights of those who are living with HIV and AIDS.

(RED)
In 2006, Bono and Bobby Shriver started an organization to combat AIDS. Partnering with NIKE, Hallmark, Apple, American Express, Beats Electronics, Coca Cola Company, and many more.

This year, however, (RED) is partnering with Snapchat who is providing World AIDS Day filters that when used will combat AIDS. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation will donate $3 to (RED) for every filter used.

So whip out those phones, slap on a smile, and combat HIV and AIDS.
