Ted Cruz describes alleged Planned Parenthood shooter as a “transgendered leftist activist”
We know Ted Cruz has lost all merit to the LGBT community. I mean, he attended a “Kill the Gays” rally within the last month, which automatically adds him to the roster of people that the LGBT people should never take seriously but pay close attention to because they have a very powerful weapon … influence.
His influence is scary. He taps into what people fear and what they don’t understand and makes it into the boogeyman. His latest attempt is as bizarre as it stupid. When asked about the Planned Parenthood attack on Friday in Colorado Springs, which left three dead and nine wounded, Cruz described the suspect, Robert Lewis Dear, of being a “transgendered leftist activist.” He continued with, “we know that he was a man registered to vote as a woman.”
This discrepancy on Dear’s voter registration was first reported by The Gateway Pundit, a “right-of-center news website.” Conservatives have since run with the claim that Dear is transgender. But from what we know about Dear, none of these claims are set in reality. Let’s just break down “transgendered leftist activist” one word at a time.
None of the people interviewed about Dear had anything to say about his gender identity. None of the pictures, court documents, or his appearance suggests that he identifies as a woman. The only thing these conservatives have to go on, is his voter registration that lists his gender as a female. This could be a clerical error, or a case of checking the wrong box.
Side note: Cruz displayed his level of ignorance about trans people, when he muttered the word “transgendered.” The word is transgender. Adding the extra “ed” implies that something made them that way, as opposed to being born that way. His inability to address the trans community, or a trans person, the correct way shows how much Cruz really knows about trans people.
Now, let’s talk about “leftist.” A New York Times article, which profiled Dear, identifies him as “generally conservative,” having been raised as a Baptist. He did not talk about politics much. According to his ex-wife, “he believed wholeheartedly in the Bible” and believed that abortion was wrong. He also distributed pamphlets criticizing President Obama to his neighbors in Colorado. On the voter registration form with the gender discrepancy, his party is listed as “UAF,” meaning unaffiliated. None of these things seem “leftist.”
Finally, Cruz described Dear as an “activist.” And again, there is no evidence to support that Dear was an activist of any kind. The Times article explained that Dear was very much a recluse, and “preferred to be left alone.” Since his divorce in the early 2000s, Dear has lived alone in multiple double wide trailers and cabins. His neighbors only knew him if he lashed out at them for interfering in his business.
So what in the hell is Ted Cruz talking about?
It’s actually frightening what Cruz, and other conservatives, are doing. They are trying anything in their power to push the blame on anyone else but themselves. They even tried to link the shooting to a bank robbery gone bad. They are hanging on by a thread, because the little amount of evidence that came from this shooting, points back to one lie that has stirred up the controversy about abortion. A law enforcement official said Dear told authorities “no more baby parts” after being arrested.
His reference to “baby parts” is refers to the edited videos suggesting that Planned Parenthood was selling parts of aborted fetuses for a profit. These rumors have been debunked, but the myth has persisted and propagated by political figures such as Cruz.
Maybe it’s a guilty conscious, or denial, that has Cruz passing the blame on anyone else but himself and the other Republican candidates. Instead of taking a stand, and saying that what this man did was wrong and motivated by perpetuated lies, he is pushing it on the “transgendered” community.
I may be preaching to the choir here, but even though we know Cruz is living in a made-up world, we can’t ignore the power he wields.
